Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Tuesday said it was surprising to see Congress leaders raising the pollution issue in Delhi, where the average Air Quality Index (AQI) is recorded everyday at 70 to 100 points, lower than what it was on the same day in the past three years during the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government.
Kapoor said that on Monday, Delhi recorded an AQI at 310, while in the three preceding years, it was 382, 468 & 450.

He wondered why the Congress leaders are talking about Delhi’s pollution now while they remained silent when the AAP was in power even as they continue to ignore pollution in various parts of Punjab ruled by Kejriwal’s party.
According to the Delhi BJP spokesperson’s claims, the situation in Delhi started deteriorating from 2009 onwards when Congress was in power. He alleged that the government back then did not do anything to frame an anti-pollution policy.
On Tuesday, accusing the BJP government in Delhi of failing to prevent pollution, state unit chief of the Congress party Devender Yadav launched a campaign for awareness about pollution by distributing masks amongst people.
“We have distributed masks in all 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi so that people could protect their health from life threatening pollution,” Yadav said.
